It can also be used to assess other conditions such as valvular heart disease. For the first part of the test, sound waves (ultrasound) are used to produce pictures of your heart, for this part of the test you will be asked to lie on a couch. The next part of the test is designed to increase your heart rate, this will be achieved by exercise . When your heart rate is increased to a satisfactory level, the ultrasound scan of your heart will be repeated. Both sets of pictures are then compared.
